Bio

Robles joined the CCCAA in 2016 as Director of Communications, continuing an athletics communications career that began in 1988 and has included stops at NCAA Div. I, Div. II and community college institutions.

Robles graduated from Cal Poly in 1988 with a degree in journalism and a concentration in public relations after gaining media experience with the Mustang Daily, Cal Poly's student newspaper, and as an intern and later as a part-time sportswriter for the San Luis Obispo Telegram-Tribune. He was also a DJ, sportscaster and newscaster for the campus radio station, KCPR. Upon graduation, Robles became Assistant Sports Information Director at Cal Poly, working specifically with the Div. I nationally ranked women's volleyball team, as well as several other sports.

After a one-year stint on the editorial staff at Volleyball Monthly Magazine in San Luis Obispo, Robles was named Sports Information Director at nearby Cuesta Community College in 1991. He was simultaneously named the Director of Information Services for the American West Conference, a fledgling league of mostly Div. I athletic programs in California and Utah.

In 1995, Robles moved on to UC Davis as Assistant Sports Information Director under current CoSIDA Hall of Famer Doug Dull. Together, the pair oversaw sports information duties for a 27-sport program. Robles was the primary SID contact for the men's basketball team when it won the NCAA Division II Championship in 1998 and the women's basketball program when it finished third nationally in 1997. He also hosted NCAA Regional Championships for the softball team, which also won a Div. II title in 2003.

Robles was promoted to Sports Information Director in 2000 and later became Assistant Athletics Director. Besides overseeing a staff of three other professionals, he was the contact for the football program for 16 of his final 17 years, including in 2005 when the Aggies stunned the college football world with a 20-17 win over Stanford. Robles was the primary contact for most of the programs at UC Davis during his 21-year tenure, was responsible for several high-profile department announcements, enjoyed a close working relationship with the UC Davis Strategic Communications office and helped with the university's reclassification from NCAA Div. II to Div. I from 2003-07.

Besides serving as Media Coordinator for several Div. II regional championships, Robles has also assisted in media relations and statistics at several other local and regional sporting events, including three NCAA Div. I Men's Basketball First and Second Round Tournaments, two Div. I West Regional Championships, an NCAA Div. I Women's Volleyball Final Four, two U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials, and several other major sporting events. He's also served as an official statistician for the San Francisco Bowl at Levi's Stadium for more than a decade. Most recently, Robles was an official statistician at three Stanford football games in 2019.

Robles iserved on the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Executive Board of Directors from 2020-22. He also served a one-year term on the CoSIDA Board of Directors earlier and has received several publication honors from the organization. He was also honored in 2020 for 25 years of service to the profession.

He resides in Sacramento with his wife Linda and son Ivan.
