Sacramento, CA . . . The California Community College Athletic Association is pleased to announce that Las Positas College will be hosting the 2016 as well as the 2017 CCCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball State Championships. Las Positas College, located in Livermore, CA, will host the top four men’s and women’s basketball teams in the State in these single elimination tournaments, scheduled for March 11-13, 2016.
LPC’s Physical Education Complex opened September 16, 2005. This state of the art athletic facility has instructional and exercise areas, an indoor track, faculty and staff offices, locker rooms, team rooms, two Fitness Centers and an athletic training room. The complex has affectionately become known as ‘The Nest’ for the home team Hawks’ men’s and women’s basketball teams.
“Las Positas College Athletics and President Dr. Barry A. Russell are looking forward to hosting the 2016 and 2017 CCCAA Men's and Women's Basketball State Championships. Every year, the best community college teams come together to compete for a championship title. Las Positas is excited that these student athletes who have worked hard all season long to get to this point have an opportunity to showcase their talent and skills at an outstanding community college venue. We look forward to being the host college for 2016 & 2017,” says Las Positas College’s Dean of Behavioral Sciences, Business & Athletics, Dyan Miller.
Leading up to the State championships are four regional rounds which in 2016 will begin February 24 and conclude on March 5. These are hosted by the higher seeded teams for each round. On March 11, 2016 the four women’s semifinalists will compete at Las Positas, trying to advance to the women’s State championship game on the 13th. The men’s semifinals will be held on the 12th, with the winners advancing to their State championship game, also scheduled for the 13th. In 2017 the four team State championship tournament format is tentative due to cost containment.
The 2014-15 basketball State championships are being held at Cerritos College, Norwalk, on March 13-15, 2015 before moving up to Northern CA next year to Las Positas College’s gymnasium.
