CCCAA Student Athlete of the Month Award - September 2007

The CCCAA Athlete of the Month program is coordinated by the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) and the California Community Colleges Commission on Athletics (COA).

Tove Berg, started the 2007 cross country season much like she ran all last year as a freshman. Berg won four individual races in September, and led the Lady Vaqueros to victories in four of the five meets they have participated in. Those victories have come in the Moorpark Invitational, the Ventura Invitational, the Western State Conference Preview Meet, and the Bakersfield Invitational.

Berg has dominated the competition so much that she has won her races by almost a minute advantage, leading the Vaqueros to the No. 1 ranking in the state.

David Pittman , capped an amazing September by leading the Pasadena City College football team to the only undefeated 5-0 record in the 12-team Mission Conference. On Sept. 29 against Palomar, he set a single-season PCC record for most passing yards in a game (28-for-38 for 481 yards) and tied the school record for most TD passes with 6 in the Lancers' 54-14 victory over the Comets.

In the win, he threw an 87-yard TD to David Reed and an 86-yard scoring strike to Marcus Anderson in the first quarter.

Pittman had 451 yards and the record by halftime, and only played 2-1/2 quarters to accomplish the two feats. Pittman leads the state in passing with 1,818 yards, 141 for 205 attempts and 20 TDs in just five games. He led the nation last year in passing yards, attempts, and completions (2,703 yards). Pittman also leads the team in rushing and the state in total offense with 414 yards per contest. Pittman is only 227 yards shy of breaking the college's career passing yards record. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound signal caller is from Brookwood High in Snellville, Georgia.
